Welcome to our Soeun Children Center (SCC) Website. We care for the future of abandoned impoverished children and orphans, and we want to help them.
In Cambodia, there are hundreds of homeless children in need of immediate help.
Left behind to for themselves, most are victims of starvation, disease, homelessness,
and even worse, child exploitation and abuse, sexual or otherwise.
More often than not, these children are scared and depressed, they have no clue where to go,
and have no one to turn to for help.
The reasons for children to become orphaned in Cambodia may vary, but all are directly or indirectly caused by the poverty in
the war-torn country, which is recovering from one of the most horrendous
forms of human genocide the world has ever seen.
As a direct effect of poverty, some parents abandoned their own children.
Some parents pass away due to sickness or disease, such as HIV/AIDS, and leave behind their children forced
to fight for survival on their own.
Desperate and alone, abandoned children search through garbage dumps for anything
that looks like food, beg for money or leftovers from strangers. At night, some abandoned
children huddle to sleep in unprotected places, exposed to the cold, mosquitos, and other dangers.
In many situations, they have led into harmful encounters with adults. Abuse, abduction, even death
are only some of the horrible consequences.
In order to improve the situation Mr. Johnny S. Ourn wanted to create a clean and safe place for orphans and
impoverished children to live and grow. In the late 2000, he has started the construction of an
orphanage, named Soeun Children Center (SCC).
