Welcome to our Website of Soeun Children Center (SCC). We are caring for children left alone through poverty and disease. Our long team goal is to bring them care and education that will equip them with skills to survive when they are grown up.
Soeun Children Center was created in response to homeless children in Cambodia in need of immediate help, who are Left behind to fend for themselves and most are victim to starvation, disease, homelessness, and, even worse, child exploitation, abuse or otherwise.
More often than not, these children are scared and depressed, they have no clue where to go,
and have no one to turn to for help.
The reasons for children to become homeless in Cambodia may vary, but all are directly or indirectly caused by the poverty in
the war-torn country, which is recovering from one of the most horrendous
forms of human genocide the world has ever seen.
As a direct effect of poverty, some parents abandoned their own children.
Some parents pass away due to sickness or disease, such as HIV/AIDS, and leave behind their children forced
to fight for survival on their own.
Desperate and alone, homeless children search through garbage dumps for anything
that looks like food, beg for money or leftovers from strangers. At night, some of them huddle to sleep in unprotected places, exposed to the cold, mosquitos, and other dangers.
In many situations, they have led into harmful encounters with adults. Abuse, abduction, even death
are only some of the horrible consequences.
In order to improve the situation Mr. Johnny S. Ourn wanted to create a clean and safe place for orphans and
impoverished children to live and grow. In the late 2000, he has started the construction of an
orphanage, named Soeun Children Center (SCC).
